Open for Innovation: Creating a connected home for Intuit’s developer community

Challenge

Intuit’s developer community had access to a growing ecosystem of services, learning opportunities, events, product updates, and peer knowledge—but these resources were often distributed across different channels and experiences.

The opportunity was to create a more cohesive community experience: a centralized destination where developers could discover what’s new, deepen their skills, connect with peers, and find meaningful ways to participate.

The challenge extended beyond organizing content. The experience needed to feel active and community-driven while making a large amount of information easy to navigate and continually discover.

Solution

We designed the experience around two complementary touchpoints:

A centralized Developer Community Hub for ongoing discovery, learning, and participation.

A monthly community newsletter that brought the most relevant content directly to members and created a recurring reason to return.

Together, these experiences created a continuous engagement loop between discovering, learning, participating, and returning to the community.

01) The centralized hub:

We created a centralized landing experience that brought the most important parts of the developer ecosystem into one discoverable destination.

Rather than functioning as a static resource library, the hub was designed to feel like an active community—surfacing timely content alongside evergreen resources.

The experience provided clear pathways into:

  • Services — Discover tools, platforms, APIs, and resources available to developers.

  • Events — Find upcoming workshops, meetups, demos, and community programming.

  • Discussions — Ask questions, exchange ideas, and learn from other developers.

  • Product Launches — Stay informed about new capabilities, releases, and updates.

  • Learning — Access tutorials, coding lessons, documentation, and opportunities to build new skills.

Content could be prioritized and refreshed over time, allowing the experience to evolve alongside the community rather than becoming another static documentation portal.

02) Extending Engagement Through a Monthly Newsletter

While the community hub created a destination, we also needed a way to maintain an ongoing relationship with members.

We developed a monthly newsletter designed as a curated snapshot of what was happening across the developer community.

Awareness:

Overview:

Using humor is an effective way to encourage employee participation in a new community hub. We recommend creating an inviting experience that reinforces a healthy company culture and highlights the technology and best practices the hub promotes.

Ad concept 01: Error?
We adapted the familiar “blue screen of death” motif—typically seen as a PC error—to capture attention and communicate the hub’s launch. Placed on select screens around the office, the design prompts a second look: rather than an error message, employees find a QR code they can scan to sign up for the new developer hub.

Ad concept 02: Extra Extra!

Use well-known meme templates for visual reference and adopt light, humorous language for anecdotes and calls to action. For example: “Oh no — the intern’s already more up to speed than I am.” These are mean’t to be posted around the office or easily shared in slack office channels as promotional materials.
